The word “jewelry” comes from the word “jewel,” which
in turn originated from the Old French word “joule” around the 13th century.
Though jewelry is primarily worn as an ornament, some jewelry
pieces are worn for their magical or spiritual properties. Precious stones
in particular are believed to possess the power to facilitate spiritual
connections or modify the influence of the planets. The power assigned to
specific gems set in necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are believed to
amplify the energy of your passion and personal aura to attract love and
bring you closer to your cosmic soul mate. On the other hand, some famous
gems are believed to carry a curse.
Although gold has been the primary metal used to fashion magnificent pieces
of jewelry over the ages, other materials have also been used. Wood, bones,
shells, teeth, ivory, hair, and even the blood of the beloved have been used
in the fashioning of jewelry.
In some Oriental traditions, jade is considered lucky for love. It is common
for lovers to carry jade in their pocket to stroke in order to bring good
fortune in love. Jade could be called the soul mate stone.
In modern times, lovers of both sexes wear beautifully crafted sterling
silver or gold bands on their fingers engraved with “Mo Anam Cara,” which in
Irish/Gaelic means “my dearest love” or “my soul mate” to reinforce the idea
of the twin flame. These mystical rings have little Claddagh symbols of
hands holding a crowned heart between the words. The Claddagh symbolizes
love, loyalty, and friendship.
Trinity, or love knot, designs for jewelry take the concept further. These
designs are typically used on pendants. The interlaced, unbroken decorative
knot symbolizes eternal life, never-ending love, and spiritual growth. Each
twist and turn of the knot has individual magical and mystical qualities.
This knot is often combined with the traditional Claddagh symbol to
emphasize the eternal love of soul mates. Other soul mate jewelry designs
that are popular today are created around the image of entwined hearts.
Although gold, silver, and platinum are the precious metals most popular in
fine jewelry, copper is associated with the planet Venus and is thought to
be a powerful love charm metal.
Among gems, rose quartz is said to generate strong love energy and act as a
love magnet. Its aura is thought to encircle the wearer and enhance the
vibrations for attracting the wearer’s soul mate. For many people today,
diamonds are most strongly associated with the concept of eternal love.
